OK, I’m outta here for the long weekend. A couple of links to keep you occupied through the next couple of days:
The always excellent The Line of Best Fit has a Q&A with The National’s Aaron Dessner about their new album Boxer. He says their influences for the record were Dylan, the Band, the Smiths, Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits. Oh, and the Boss likes them, too. If that doesn’t make you run out and get Boxer right now, I don’t know what will.
The Great Barstoolio is celebrating New Order’s recent demise with New Order Week. She’s running the gamut; starting with their rise from the ashes of post-punk legends Joy Division, through their synth-pop glory days. As usual, it’s glorious.
Finally, this doesn’t have much to do with music, except for this part:
The Mets Clubhouse DJ is now playing snake charmer music with a shit-ton of bass.
And it just gets funnier from there. Might be the funniest thing ever.
And since it’s Memorial Day Weekend, here are some songs to listen to while worshiping your dark lord*:
Chelsea Taube – Save My Soul From The Devil
TV On The Radio – Let The Devil In
Whiskeytown – What The Devil Wanted
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Devil’s Waitin’
Van Halen – Runnin’ With The Devil
Modest Mouse – This Devil’s Workday
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Satan Said Dance
Uncle Tupelo – Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down
*Sorry, I thought Memorial Day was that one holiday where you are supposed to worship Satan.
Hey! I got a shout-out! I think you are the only one who enjoyed New Order Week, by the way. But I was glad SOMEONE did.
